India is a diverse and religious country where different types of peoples and places exist. Moreover, India is also rich in holy places to travel. There are various famous sacred places present in India to travel and the exciting thing about them is each place is unique and full of spiritual peace. Some of the must travel places are listed below along with their uniqueness!

1.Amritsar

Amritsar is in the state of Punjab founded by the fourth guru of Sikhs. Amritsar means the Holy Pool of Nectar’ and got its name from the water body present around the Golden temple. Despite being a holy place, the Golden Temple is also known for its beauty and shine.

It looks more attractive at night when the Golden temple is fully lit up with lights, imposing pure gold dome illuminated. The pilgrims from all over the world are attracted by this beauty and shine of this Golden Temple.

2.Haridwar

Haridwar means ‘Gateway to God’ and is one of the oldest sacred holy places in India. It is located in Uttrakhand at the foothills of the Himalayas. Many pilgrims come from different places to have a bath in the holy water of the fast-flowing Ganges River to wash away their sins.

Here the water is much cleaner and fresh. The evening Ganga Aarti is another famous ritual here and is also another reason to attract peoples even from the far places.

3.Rishikesh

 Another holy place in Uttrakhand is Rishikesh which is not much far away from the Haridwar. Rishikesh is famous for Yoga and meditation. The people come here to meditate and seek knowledge from here about Hinduism.

It is situated on the bank of the Ganges river, surrounded by hills on three sides. It is more famous for mental peace rather than to roam for its beauty. Both Haridwar and Rishikesh are located near to each other, so it is better to visit them both while travelling any one of these.

4.Varanasi

Being a holy place, Varanasi is also known as the ‘Spiritual Capital of India’. It is the most famous holy and spiritual place in India and is known for its various specialities. Pilgrims come from all over the world in order to receive mental peace and to meditate here. In fact, many believers believe that dying in this holy place can lead them to get rid of this cycle of rebirth. Some of the best places to explore in Varanasi are Vishwanath temple, Ramnagar fort and museum, Kedar ghat, Assi ghat and much more.

5.Tirupati

Tirupati is another famous and well-known holy place in India. Tirupati is located in the Chittoor district of Andhra PradeshIt is mostly famous for the Sri Venkateswara temple. The zoo, waterfall, and cave are also present here to explore and a well-known temple Sri Kapileswara Swamy believes to be sacred and is related to Lord Shiva.

6.Badrinath

Another well known holy place of Uttrakhand is Badrinath. Badrinath is located in Badrinath town of Uttrakhand. It forms one of the four Char Dham and Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. This Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

This holy place opens for six months(April to November(max.)) in a year due to the climatic conditions in the Himalayan region. Being a holy place, it is also known for its beauty and the area where it is located. So it is better to visit it at least once.

7.Madurai

Among the famous temples in South India, the Meenakshi temple is one of them known for its physical and spiritual beauty. Meenakshi temple is located near the banks of the River Vaigai in Tamil Nadu. This temple is dedicated to the Goddess Meenakshi and this is the reason why it is counted in top holy places. Around 10,000- 12,000 travellers and pilgrims come over this place to pray daily.

8.Jagannath Puri

Puri is located in Odisha and forms one of the char Dhams like Badrinath. It is one of the most sacred and holy pilgrimage places for Hindus. The believers worship the three idols Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra which are made of a special kind of wood Daru Brahma.

9.Dwarka

Dwaraka is the fourth Dham among all the Char Dhams. It is situated in Dwarka Nagri of Dwarka city. Dwarka is believed as a holy place because once it was used to be the capital of Lord Krishna. Another famous temple here is the Dwarkadhish temple which is about five-storey tall and is bound with 72 pillars.

10.Rameshwaram

Rameswaram is located in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is famous for its Ramanathaswamy Temple, which forms one of the Dham among Char Dhams. This place is known to be holy and full of spiritual as well as physical beauty. This place is full of huge sculptures of various idols and has many Sacred water bodies full of holy water to wash away the sins of the travellers and pilgrims who come here to visit.

These places make India also rich in holy places to travel, unlike other countries.    

At last, these are the famous holy places in India to cut the connection from the daily lives for a while and to have some rest and mental peace!
