“Give a trekker perfect pair of shoes and the mountain will be easily vanquished”

The above line is true for every trekker. A trekker spends most of the time in shoes. Trekker should choose shoes perfectly. A tiny issue can make the journey an unmitigated disaster.

Hiking trips focus more on walking. The entire body will be dependent on the legs.

Hiking footwear varies greatly in weight, design, support, it creates confusion to navigate the right pair. Not all types of hiking footwear are appropriate for all types of trails. The main objective of hiking shoes is to protect your feet versus bruising and wear and tear from wild terrain. It also cushions your soles providing good grip on rough, slippery terrain. Prior to travelling, you should know about the destination and duration of time you will be out there in the open.

Still in doubt about how to choose the perfect pair of shoes for trekking?

Here is a guide for you to safeguard your journey.

1.Hiking Shoes:

Are you planning a one day trip? Or exploring the entire mountain? Hiking shoes are lightweight. They are low-cut exemplars with flexible rubber soles.

When to choose?

  • Headed for a one day trip
  • Walking on easy tracks
  • Carrying less weight.

Boots that protect the hiker’s feet and heel are appropriate. Hiking boots provide ankle support and are fairly stiff. Hiking shoes are easily affordable. If exploring branded shoes, that will cost around 4000. These weightless shoes weigh less than 900 grams.

 When to choose?

  • Multi-day hiking trip.
  • Walking on rough tracks
  • Carrying heavyweight.

Trekking shoes are mid-cut or high-cut(Above Ankle). Featherweight hiking boots provide better ankle support than hiking shoes. These shoes are not suitable for rocky and uneven terrain.

3. Mountaineering Boots:

Mountaineering boots are known for the average size and protection the shoe provides. They are huge in size. These can easily withstand any tuberous tunnel or any brutal weather. An extra layer of insulation is also provided.

When to choose?

  • Carrying an extremely heavy load.
  • Going for longer duration treks.
  • Suitable especially during frost.

The hindrance of mountaineering boots is that they are less breathable and heavier compared to other hiking footwear and thus they are not the best choice for day hikes on easy trails.

Water-Resistance: An Important Feature Not To Neglect

While checking trekking shoes, the water-resistant feature should be doubled check. No one while trekking prefers wet shoes. Your legs should not get wet even if you accidentally stepped in a puddle.

It is believed that if your feet are wet you’re likely to have blisters. The biggest advantage is that the feet stay dry and warm. Waterproof boots are not essential if you’re only performing hiking, it can be a necessity if you’re on the trail. Wet feet can induce problems, such as blisters, which can lead to you being in pain on the trail.

Tips To Buy Your Trekking Shoes:

  • Choosing the right boot for the trail.
  • Choosing lightweight shoes.
  • Specializing boots as per your adventure.
  • Selecting the right size.
  • Consider waterproof boots.
  • Don’t forget to walk while wearing boots.
  • Wear socks also during the trial.

What are hiking shoes made of?

Construction of shoe plays an important role in deciding the right shoe. Trekking shoes have 3 main components :

  1. Upper:

The upper is the upper part of a hiking shoe and sets out protection against the environment. The upper has to be breathable, long-lasting and water-resistant in order to provide virtuous comfort.

Uppers are made of leather or a combination of leather and synthetic materials Some hiking boots also have an all-around border in the lower part for better scratch-resistance. Each upper material has perks of high and low.

  1. MidSole:

“Sole is the soul of the shoe.”

A shoe must provide comfort. Midsole plays an important part in comfort. A sole should be tough to protect from stones and keen thorns. Soles are mostly made up of EVA and Polyurethane.

  1. Outer Sole:

The outsole is the part of a hiking boot that reaches the Earth. Hiking shoes usually have outsoles made of soft rubber. The lug part at the bottom of the shoe defines your grip while trekking.

Trekking is not just enjoyment its all about exploring the mountains. If you got the right pair of shoes you’re in ecstasy else you’ll end up in blisters. Choosing the right size matters too. A trekking shoe must provide protection and should be wearable. We end up most of the time buying shoes without examining these qualities. The very next time you buy trekking shoes, remember the feet are an important part of your body.
