The closest railway station to Lohajung is Kathgodam. Kathgodam is well connected with Delhi, Lucknow, and Howrah and can be conveniently reached by train. From Kathgodam Lohajung 10 hour drive that stretches over a number of hill stations.

The route of the trek will be as such :

Kathgodam – Lohajung – Bekaltal – Brahmatal – Brahmatal summit – Brahmatal – Lohajung – Kathgodam

Required fitness for Brahmatal trek : 

As it is a moderate trek that stretches over a period of about 6 days it is necessary to build the required endurance for it. It is advisable to start training your body before the actual trek. Start with long walks and running. In order to train your body for high altitudes, it is necessary to carry out exercises that will help you cope with it. Doing regular cardiovascular exercises will help build stamina. It is necessary that the climber should be able to climb with a weight of 10 kg on his back.  

Children under the age of 8 are strictly not allowed, also people with the illness are advised not to go. As the trek majorly has a forest route, chances of altitude sickness are thin.

Brief Itinerary of the Brahmatal trek:

Day 1: Kathgodam to Lohajung

It is a 210 km drive

Time Taken: 10 hours.

Altitude: 7600 ft.

Day 2: Lohajung to Bekaltal

Moderate level ascent through the forest. Can camp at Bekaltal. It provides a scenic lake view.

Time Taken: 5 hours.

Altitude: 7600 ft to 9885 ft.

Day 3: Bekaltal to Brahmatal

During this trek Shivalik and greater Himalayas, both can be seen. It is a beautiful and engaging route.

Time Taken: 6-7 hours.

Altitude: 9885 ft to10450 ft.

7 km trek. 

Day 4: Brahmatal to Brahmatal top

The First 180-degree angle covers Chaukhambha, Mandir, Mana, Nilgiri, Neelkanth, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Maitoli all the way to the Panchachuli ranges, rest is Shivalik Himalayas.

Time Taken: 6-7 hours.

Altitude:  10450 ft to12250 ft.

 8 km trek.

Day 6: Lohajung to Kathgodam

Things To Carry on a Mountain Trek:

  • Shirts/T-shirts – 2-3, Warm shirt/light small scale wool pullover/full sleeve T-shirt
  • Trekking Pants that are water-resistant/anti-agents and having inside coating for additional warmth
  • Windproof/water-resistant external shell (coat) of good quality with a hood
  • Down coat with min 600 fill power rating, Thick Fleece/Full-sleeve Woolen sweater
