Also, people show great interest in it along with the government. It all initially started in the year 1980.  Yes! That’s right this moment took place during the 1980s. But has gained its popularity in the coming years only. Ecotourism is also known as green tourism, mindful travel, wildlife travel nature tourism or natural’s walk. Lots of schools and colleges promote ecotourism as their trips where the students and teachers not only get to enjoy nature but also learn its value by educating about it.

Ecotourism involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna and cultural heritage are the main attractions. The government has taken a keen interest in ecotourism by not only promoting it through advertisement but also with funds and ideas to expand this way of tourism in different states. The most famous and popular spot for ecotourism in Uttarakhand are below. Uttarakhand has now become an ecotourism spot.

 Uttarakhand is known for its greenery and nature which has made it a beautiful tourist attraction spot that has brought a lot of attention of tourists from all over the world. The state has blessings of great forests, snow-capped mountains, rolling meadows, high altitude lakes, wildlife, etc. Uttarakhand being a huge state there are many places in the list. But the most famous and top 5 places to visit and explore the beauty of its nature are below.

Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand. It has the most mesmerizing picture location with mountains covered with fog- a beautiful view of Himalayan ranges and river Ganga flowing through. It is one of the most crowded and busiest cities of Uttarakhand and yet so peaceful at the same time.

Mussoorie is only about 38 km from Dehradun which makes it impossible to miss the visit. It is otherwise known as the ‘Queen of Hills’. The greenery on both the side of roads makes the view eye-catching. It’s ideal for a peaceful getaway and road trips.

With only a few kilometres away from Mussoorie, Landour is known as a Peaceful Heaven. This place is not much significant in terms of tourism but it’s among the most serene places to see in Uttarakhand. It is popular for its delicious cheese and homemade jams.

Formerly a British hill station, this place is most famous as a honeymoon destination.  It is the gem of Uttarakhand. The hill station sits pretty at the green foothills of Kumaon ranges in the Himalayas. The Nani lake in the valley and the other lakes which join mountains from all sides have brought the title as ‘city of lakes. Be it a boat ride on the beautiful Nani lake or any other lakes or take a ride to soak in the beauty of the Himalayas from the snow viewpoint, the experience is unforgettable.

Rishikesh and Haridwar

Even the foreigners find these places amazing and being Hindu culture oriented, the population is huge throughout the year. People visit this place to find their inner spirituality or faith. It is always glowing with arati sounds and is bright with the diyas during the aarti time. The entire view of the mandir brings one faith to live. The Ganga aarti is the most famous aarti in Haridwar and can’t be missed if you are there at the moment. Hundreds of people, locals and tourists attend this magnificent event every year. Also, the most famous holy dip in the river Ganga takes place which is known to purify oneself while doing it. 

Rishikesh has adventurous places like water sports adventures and trekking up in the hills. Also, it has many Ashrams.

Other than nature’s wealth and holy pilgrimages, there is also a wildlife presence in Uttarakhand. Jim Corbett National Park was formerly known as Haley’s National Park. Jim Corbett was established in 1938 and the main attraction was and are the Royal Bengal Tigers. The park is home to around 600 species of birds and animals. More than 450 different types of trees are present in this sanctuary. The park also organises safaris, hiking trails throughout the year in the dense forest. These safaris are very popular among school and college students and wildlife lovers. Wildlife photographers and nature lovers are among the most frequent visitors of Jim Corbett National Park. therefore, this is an important mark of ecotourism in Uttarakhand. 

All of these five places promote ecotourism. But ecotourism is not merely a name, it allows everyone to explore the beauty of nature in its existing natural environment. Gain a greater understanding and experience of the local culture of places of Ecotourism without contributing to their decline. Ecotourism also has certain rules which tourists should follow :
