Kumbh Mela Shahi Snan

Kumbh Mela is originated from two words, “Kumbh” and “Mela”. The name Kumbh has resulted from the immortal pot of nectar.

It is believed that Demons and Devtas were constantly fighting over this pot of nectar. Mela simply means gathering. The pot was concealed by the Devtas ensuring its safety on Brahaspati, Surya, Shani, and Chandra. The Demons followed the Devtas for several days. During this course, drops of the nectar dropped over four places namely Nashik, Haridwar, Ujjain and Prayagraj.

The battle continued for 12 days meaning 12 years. These four places are believed to be sacred and have mystical powers. Kumbh Mela is celebrated at these four places. According to the ancient, the water in the river turns into Amrit. It is believed that if you have a bath in those rivers your soul will be purified.
