Kalka-Shimla railway is one of the mountain railways of India. Being one of the three mountain railways of India, Kalka-Shimla railway is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Here the railway lines are built in the mountains, this thing had already made it special, still, there are many specialities hidden the box.

Still being operational – emphasizes the material and technical efforts of older times. Being built in the mid-nineteenth century, Kalka-Shimla Railway is a 96 km long(around 60 miles), in the northern part of Chandigarh, India, provides a service of taking people from Kalka to Shimla and vice versa and also giving picturesque hills and experiencing world’s longest tunnel.

Even though it is not the most economical way one can spend reach Shimla, but it is worth. You can definitely find yourself watching majestic Himalayas and admiring the hill folks.

Route

Kalka-Shimla Railway (KSR) train passes through 103 tunnels, and about 800 bridges, having a world’s longest tunnel. This tunnel covers over 1.1 km and it is located near the main railway station at the Barog.

Track Length: 96 Km.

Places covered: Shimla, Summer Hill, Shoghi, Salogra, Solan Brewery, Barog, Kumarhatti Dagshai, Dharmpur, Kalka Junction.

How to book

Unlike having two months to book in advance, Toy train bookings are open only a month. During holiday seasons like New year, Dussehra Holidays, Summer Holidays, number of tourists would be high. It is always advisable to be in a step ahead.
