The trail starts from Sankri, a village that is the base camp for most trekkers. The trek boasts of many mesmerizing views from the beautiful campsites, thick forests of pine trees and a 360-degree view of the mountains.

At a height of 12500ft, the Kedarkantha peak gives you a jaw-dropping view of the early morning sun as it rises in the mountains. The best time to do the Kedarkantha Trek is December to February when the mountains are engulfed in snow.

About the Trek…

The Kedarkantha is one of the most incredible tours of trekking, it provides cherishing memories and refreshing surroundings to each traveller. Kedarkantha has been known for having the best campsites, the 360-degree view makes it even more fascinating. 

This well-planned winter trek is an affordable opportunity for beginners. The trek passes through villages of the Garhwal district, giving the trekkers a taste of their culture and traditions. Moreover, the entire path of the trek lies within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and National park.

The Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun is the closest air service available. You can also choose to go to Dehradun via train. The base camp village Sankri is about 200km away from Dehradun and can be reached at most in 10 hrs.
The trek is around the trail and the route to the Kedarkantha peak is such: Dehradun–Sankri–Juda Ka Talab–Kedarkantha Base–Kedarkantha Peak–Hargaon–Camp Sankri

Required Fitness for Kedarkanth Trek:

Despite being an easy trail, the Kedarkantha trek involves three days of constant ascent until you reach the summit. Hence it is important to build your cardiovascular endurance for the trek. Start training for your trek much before your trip. You can start by jogging every day. In order to be prepared for a high altitude trek, you should have a combination of distance and speed exercises that tone your body and make it trek ready.

For covering and travelling distance on this trek, one must be enthusiastic, it may not be a

cakewalk for beginners but it is always worth the while. Children under the age of 8 years

are strictly not allowed, also people with the illness are advised not to go.

Base Camp for Trek: Sankri

Accommodations

Upon reaching Sankri you can stay overnight at the homestays in the village. Since Sankri is the starting point of the Kedarkantha trek there are many Dhabas and Hotels available for food and stay. There are guesthouses available in the village for trekkers.

You can cover the Kedarkantha Peak summit in a 5-7 day trek. Most travel agencies offer a week-long trek schedule, with their pick-up points at Dehradun.

DAY 1: DEHRADUN TO SANKRI

We start our trek by meeting at a common point i.e Dehradun Railway Station. All members of the trip gather together and drive from Dehradun to Sankri, the drive alone takes 7-8 hrs. We move to pass Mussoorie and reach Sankri on time.

Travelling Distance: 210 km

Travelling Time: 10 Hrs

DAY 2: SANKRI TO JUDA KA TALAB

Sankri is the first place on the Kedarkantha trekking trip where you can witness actual beauty, from here we move towards our second destination ‘Juda Ka Talab’. We trek to Juda ka Talab, passing the trail of rivers, snow mountains, and rich green forests. Once we reach our second destination, each one will be provided with a tent for the night.

 Travelling Time: 5 Hrs

 Altitude: 9,000 ft

DAY 3: JUDA KA TALAB TO KEDARKANTHA BASE

On the third day, we again trek from Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base. We stay the night at the Kedarkantha base camp. The camp is placed at a beautiful location, as the sun goes down one can see a clear sky and twinkling stars at night.

Travelling Time: 5 Hrs

Altitude: 11,200 ft

DAY 4: KEDARKANTHA BASE TO KEDARKANTHA PEAK TO HARGAON CAMP

The Kedarkantha peak has an amazing view, to witness the same we move upwards to the peak on our fourth day. The highest altitude will be of 12,500 ft, one must tie their shoes to walk! From the peak of Kedarkantha, we travel down towards the Hargaon camp, after reaching trekkers must rest!

DAY 5: HARGAON CAMP TO SANKRI

Now that the members of GoAdven have seen the peak of Kedarkantha it’s time to return. The second last day we trek for the final time from Hargoan camp to Sankri.

DAY 6: SANKRI TO DEHRADUN

The final day of Kedarkantha trek comprises travelling through cabs to Dehradun. Cab charges will be added to the participation fee.
